This week I have studied several different business topics, but one of the most important ones that I have studied is about ethics and honesty. I work in the auto industry and history has told us that not a lot of people trust car salesmen or managers. If you dont know this, all you need to do is come and work as a salesman or a sales manager for one day and see how the customers treat you. Yes, you will get treated very kindly and well by some people, but a majority of the people come into the dealership with huge, thick walls up. They do this because they do not trust you. Why do they not trust you? Because they have heard of all the horror stories from their friends and relatives of them getting ripped off or cheated from used car salesman. This is what makes my work difficult day in and day out. Learning about ethics and honesty this week was a great reminder to make ethics and honesty a first priority in any field that you go into, any business that you create and with any interac...
This week we learned about over
coming challenges and obstacles in our Entrepreneur life. This was very fitting
because I feel like there are constant obstacles to overcome not only in
business but in life as well. One of my favorite speeches that I read this week
was “However long and hard the road” by Jeffery R Holland. One of the best
quotes from that speech was when he said “Take advantage of every opportunity to learn and
grow. Dream dreams and see visions. Work toward their realization. Wait
patiently when you have no other choice. Lean on your sword and rest a while,
but get up and fight again. Perhaps you will not see the full meaning of your
effort in your own lifetime. But your children will, or your children’s
children will, until finally you, with all of them, can give the Hosanna shout.” That
really stuck with me because I feel like a lot of times when we are dreaming or
seeing visions of ourselves accomplishing some great thing, immediately after
we begin to see all of the obstacles that are on the road and that quickly
de-motivates us from taking that path. It is important to realize that in order
to be successful in just about anything in life that we need to be willing and
have the faith and courage to encounter many obstacles and know that we can
overcome them. As far as an obstacle that I have had in this class so far is
trying to get ahold of the entrepreneurs to set up a time where I could come
and interview them for a couple minutes. This week I am going to try a few
different strategies and see if they work out. But, overall, in overcoming
challenges I think the most important attribute is faith. But, also faith
without works is dead.

This week in class we learned a lot about the 7 habits of highly effective people. Those habits are first, be proactive. Second, Begin with the end in mind. Third, put first things first. Fourth, think win/win. Fifth, seek first to understand, then to be understood. Sixth, Synergize. Seventh, sharpen the saw. Although each of these habits stood out to me individually in separate ways, being proactive, synergize, and sharpen the saw really inspired me, and stood out to me most. Being proactive is not something that is easily done especially when no one is around telling you what to do. Business owners, especially early entrepreneurs find themselves in this situation. They are trying to start something and they have to be proactive to get anything done. I believe that those who are successful are pros at being proactive instead of reactive. Overall, learning how to be proactive instead of reactive in life, and in situations is a powerful tool and habit to have in life. Second was syner...
This week was very interesting. I was able to learn a lot from all of my classes, but especially this weeks lesson in this class about being, becoming a disciple leader. When we think of the word disciple, we quickly think of Christianity and Christs disciples. When we break down the word disciple what does it really mean? According to google it means: a personal follower of Jesus during his life, especially one of the twelve Apostles. Like I said, this is one of the most common ways to think of a disciple. But, the second definition is “A follower or student of a teacher, leader, or philosopher.” I think this definition and take on disciple is very interesting and intriguing. Being a disciple leader then means much more and we can really apply it in any industry and in any field of study. We have all heard that some of the greatest leaders are the greatest followers. This is very true, especially when we talk about Jesus Christ. Throughout His time here on earth, He continually poin...
